Golf Formats Explained: BEST BALL

Best Ball is a team-based golf competition that can be played in teams of 2-4 players. Often confused with a scramble, this format allows players to play their own ball for the whole round.

Bonnie Red and Carol Black each play their own ball. At the end of the hole, Bonnie has the lower individual score. The team uses her score as their team score for the hole.

Best Ball can (and often is) played in a net format, which uses player’s handicaps to allocate free strokes on certain holes. This allows for more fair competition among players of various skill levels.

Individual scores can easily be tracked separately team score using our custom best ball scorecard.
