Golf Formats Explained: SCRAMBLE

A scramble is a team-based golf competition that can be played in teams of 2-4 players. Players each hit their own ball, collect all the balls to the best result, and all hit again from the same location.

Alice, Bonnie, and Carol all tee off. Alice’s golf ball is in the best position. Bonnie and Carol bring their balls to Alice’s.

The three golfers hit their second shot. Bonnie’s ball is in the best position this time. Alice and Carol bring their balls to Bonnie’s.

This pattern of hitting from the same location, choosing the best result, and bringing the remaining balls to that best spot should repeat until the team is holed out.

This format is ideal for tournaments with a lot of beginners. Ideally, teams should distribute experience and skill fairly.

Variations of this golf format may require a certain number of contributions from each player. Individual contributions can easily be tracked alongside team score using our custom scramble scorecard.
